At Moovers Chicago, our primary goal is to transport your possessions safely. Even with all of our collective experience and expertise, accidents still may happen. To protect against the unlikely event of damage or loss, we provide a range of options.
It is important to consider loss and damage protection before your move. Assessing the value of your possessions can be difficult and may take some time. You can use the amount of your homeowners (or renters) insurance coverage as a reference. Your move is not automatically fully insured to the full value of your property in case of loss or damage.
Option 1: Default – Minimum Carrier Liability (already included in your estimate)
Moving requires planning and detailed logistics, here are few tips that are particularly helpful:
Without purchasing additional coverage, you already have the default, mandated insurance as part of our standard intrastate (within Illinois) packages. Any item that is damaged or lost during the move will be compensated for a value of $0.30 per pound per article. For example, a 10 lb. lamp x 30 cents = $3.00. You would be compensated $3.00 for that specific lamp.
Option 2: Declared Value
With this option, you and Moovers Chicago are agreeing to share the liability at a higher amount than Option 1 ($0.30/lb option). You determine the value of your entire shipment (not just individual items). This declared amount becomes the maximum liability. The fee charged for this option is $2 for every $100 of declared value. For example a shipment declared at $20,000, an additional $400 will be added to the transportation charge.
If there is a claim, each damaged item will be repaired, replaced or compensated according to its depreciated value, not to exceed the shipment’s declared value. In the previous example, the maximum compensation is $20,000.
Option 3: Insurance (Third-Party Insurance)
This is “all risk” insurance coverage from a third-party insurance company and can be either depreciated or full replacement insurance. Which Option is Right for You?
The choice of loss and protection options, will greatly depend on the value of your possessions and your budget, naturally. Considering the value of your possessions in both monetary or sentimental terms, the objective is to balance minimizing your anxiety of loss or damage (promoting your peace of mind) versus budgetary constraints. If your load contains particularly high-value goods or you’re planning a very complex move, full insurance from a third-party vendor is the right option. Perhaps your budge is simply too tight and your items are easily replaced, the default option may be the best route. Whatever option is chosen, we will honor the agreement.

These dudes are awesome! I cannot remember the names of all the movers, but Ceasar and his team were great! We gave them cupcakes after such an amazing job they did. Unfortunately there was an error on my end with giving them my number, but despite that they absolutely crushed our move! They were fantastic and I could not give them enough praise!
