Moving to Chicago? But where? The Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area is vast.  This guide to moving to Chicago may help.

There are 200+ distinct (and distinctive) neighborhoods that make up the 77 community areas in the city of Chicago; they vary widely in terms of character and services. From the liveliness of downtown to the small-town atmosphere of outer neighborhoods, each area has a lot to offer people looking to relocate to Chicago or its suburbs.

A bit of history: By grouping together neighborhoods, the community areas were originally mapped out by two University of Chicago sociologists, Robert E. Park and Ernest Burgess, in the late 1920s. Except for the addition of O'Hare in 1956 and Edgewater in 80's, the boundaries of these regions have remained largely unchanged. Despite urban development and construction, most city officials still refer to the 77 community areas when mapping out the city.  In fact, most publicly available data about the city also relies on these units.

More broadly speaking, the Greater Chicago Area is broken down into three "sides" based on relation to downtown: North, West and South (there is no "East" since it is Lake Michigan). Many guides and online resources will use the sides to simplify organization of the community areas and neighborhoods.

The guide is intended to give some general information about community areas and neighborhoods that may help identify a few areas of interest in your upcoming move to the Chicago area.

One of the best resources for the latest local city and community information (Public Safety, Education, Transportation, etc) is the City of Chicago Data Portal.

    ★★★★★

Hired for a 3 bedroom apartment move and Marcos and his crew were amazing!! They completed our move very quickly - in half the estimated time. We came in waaay under the estimated cost! Would 100% use them for every and any move going forward. After a terrible experience with Two Men and a Truck around this same move I was very pleasantly surprised at how different this company was!
Book them and never look back!

These dudes are awesome! I cannot remember the names of all the movers, but Caesar and his team were great! We gave them cupcakes after such an amazing job they did. Unfortunately, there was an error on my end with giving them my number, but despite that, they absolutely crushed our move! They were fantastic and I could not give them enough praise! They even performed under our estimated quote. My fiance and I could not be happier. They earned their tip fair and square. No damage to anything and all of our stuff was treated with care.

    ★★★★★

We moved from Chicago to the suburbs today with this company. I am truly amazed by the professionalism level of their two guys - Abner and Caesar. They arrived on time and were very polite in their behavior. They climbed 3 level of stairs without even resting for a bit. They were very careful and diligent in moving our stuff without a single scratch or damage. I would like to recommend this business to everyone looking for movers service in Chicago area.
